Sourdough Rye Bread

Ingredients:

  •  1 cup rye sourdough starter
  • ½ cup water
  • ¼ cup molasses
  • ¼ cup oil
  • ¼ cup milk
  • ¼ cup flax seed meal
  • 1 cup rye flour
  • ½ cup whole wheat flour
  • 1 ½ cups bread flour
  • 1 tsp salt

Preparation:

  • Combine and mix wet ingredients.
  • Mix dry ingredients in a separate bowl and then combine with wet ingredients.
  • Work into a dough.
  • Place dough in covered bowl and let rise until doubled.
  • Knead for 10 minutes. Sprinkle with flour as necessary during kneading ….. if dough is sticky.
  • Form into a loaf and place in 9 inch pan.
  • Let rise until at least 1 inch above top of pan.
  • Place in a preheated oven and bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes.
  • Remove from pan and place on rack to cool.

The entire rising process may take several hours, depending on ambient temperature and potency of the starter.
